River has been a slow maturing colt. We felt he wasnt mentally capable of starting his race career as a 2 year old. He is much taller than we had ever anticipated him to be and it has taken him awhile to grow into those long legs. While hes a sweet colt he does have a fractious side that often gets him into trouble. He doesnt seem to understand why everyone is so unwilling to play with him and even looks sad when reprimanded as if he doesnt understand why he shouldnt behave that way.
River has a long ground covering stride and is capable of taking a early lead. However Riv seems to think that once he takes the lead his job is done. He has to be held back and then tricked into taking the lead and winning the race at the last possible moment. We hope this behavior is something he will soon grow out of once he starts his career in ernest.
