There was just something about this colt that caught my eye. While I tossed the decision back and forth for weeks on end it was eventually decided that he would come home with us. Riyadh raced both on the flat and over the hurdles before being retired to a career in eventing. The information we have on his previous career is limited but we were willing to take a change especially with bloodlines like his.
Riyadh is a full brother to Najran the only other foal his dam produced. Najran equaled the World Record for a mile (set by Dr fager) in the 2003 Westchester H. (G3), 8f in 1:32.1. Ending his career as a Grade I winner with 15 Starts: 7 - 2 - 1, $483,448.
Riyadhs sire Runaway Groom pretty much speaks for himself with 18 Starts: 6 - 5 - 1, $347,537. Runaway Groom Won the Travers S.-G1, Prince Of Wales S. & the Breeders S. In 1982 he was named Champion 3-year-old male in Canada. He was also Elected in to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. Runaway Groom Defeated three US classics winners (Aloma's Ruler, Conquistador Cielo, Gato del Sol) in one race ('82 Travers.)
Riyadhs dam Line Command was unraced but has proven herself as a producer with these two. With 2 great names in her pedigree Conquistador Cielo & Seattle Slew she really is a blue hen.
